A common sense voice for District 2 |

Issues |
|
I am opposed to the Land Transfer Tax: The Land Transfer Tax is a fundamentally unfair tax which requires just a few of our citizens to pay the bill for programs which benefit everyone.
I am in favor of responsible, sustainable Economic Development: New non-residential development will allow Orange County to generate more tax revenue without raising the tax rate. New business locating in the county will provide employment and shopping opportunities closer to home for our citizens.
I am opposed to School Merger: Both county school systems should continue to strive for educational excellence and should be encouraged to explore new ways to save taxpayer dollars by cooperating in providing support services. But fundamental academic policy decisions must remain under the control of School Boards answerable to the populations they serve. Without assurance of fair and balanced representation, a unified School Board would not adequately represent the educational interests of District 2 residents.
I am in favor of controlling Government Growth: Orange County’s government continues to grow at an astonishing rate. New buildings and new employees to fill them are added to our landscape every year. We must control the growth of government while demanding greater efficiency to ensure that we have adequate funds to supply critical services to the citizens of Orange County.
I am in favor of a sensible Land Use Plan: Orange County is in the process of revising its Land Use Plan. We should adopt a plan that safeguards the environment while respecting private property rights and planning for the inevitable growth that Orange County must and will absorb.
